34th Annual Conference on Neighborhood Concerns
May 20-23, 2009 Spokane, Washington
The Neighborhoods, USA Board of Directors and the City of Spokane Conference Planning Committee are now accepting workshop proposals for 90 minute presentations at the 34th Annual NUSA Conference. This years theme is "Our Place is Your Place."
The conference workshop tracks include:
- Building Stronger Neighborhoods
Leadership Development, Civic engagement, Technology, Communications, etc - Neighborhood Planning, Revitalization & Redevelopment
Preservation, New urbanism, Affordable housing, Fair housing etc. - Recreating & Sustaining Safe & Clean Communities
Community policing, Disaster preparedness, Property maintenance, etc. - Healthy Communities Initiatives
Community fitness programs, Pedestrian and bicycle friendly neighborhoods, etc. - Sustainable & Green Communities
Construction, Healthy living environment, Integrated designs, etc. - Community Resources & Partnerships
Higher education, Faith-based partnerships, Grant research/writing, Non-profits, etc. - Inclusive Communities
Valuing diversity, Arts & culture, Generations working together, Youth programs, etc.
Terms and Conditions
Proposals must be submitted in the prescribed "Proposal Outline" (see below). Submissions not using the prescribed outline will NOT be considered. Proposals may be submitted in writing, via email or by US mail postmarked on or before Saturday November 1, 2008. Presenters are required to pay their expenses to include conference registration fees and if possible, supply their own computers. LCD projectors will be supplied. Priority will be given to workshops with grassroots neighborhood participation. Workshops will be held on Thursday " Friday, May 21-22. Presenters must be available both days until the workshop date and time is confirmed. The Review Committee reserves the right to merge workshops and panels. Upon approval, a workshop commitment agreement will be sent to all presenters.
Proposal Outline - Call for Presentations
Please respond on letter-size (8.5”X11”) paper or via email using the following outline:
Workshop Information:
- Title - suggested workshop title for registration booklet.
- Description - 60 word maximum to be used in program booklet.
- Summary Description - 300 word maximum to include three learning objectives and how the workshop will involve and potentially impact the grassroots neighborhood attendee.
- Suggested Track(s) - Choose primary & secondary tracks from those listed on the reverse side.
- Session Format - (panel, individual, moderated, clinic, debate etc.).
- Audio/Visual Equipment - Please list equipment to be used. LCD projector to be provided by the Host City.
Lead Contact & Panelist Information:
Please provide the following information indicating the workshop lead contact and each panelist/presenter. Priority will be given to workshops including grassroots neighborhood leaders.

- Statement confirming each presenter/panelist is aware of the submission & agrees with the terms & conditions described above
